INTRODUCTION
The use of sand in Play Therapy is a modality that utilizes a wide range of miniature figurines with which clients “build a world” in a tray of sand. This approach with its roots in the Lowenfeld World Technique is an effective intervention tool for children, teens, adults, and families in a variety of settings. With the support and witness of the therapist, this story telling through images promotes awareness, expression, and healing experience for the clients.
This workshop provides the participants with a basic understanding of the theory behind the use of sand and the application of it within the Gestalt Play Therapy framework. Through case discussion and experiential learning, participants will gain specific skills and knowledge on how this therapeutic tool can facilitate an individual, family or group to process and explore personal development, trauma and future goals in a safe and non-threatening environment.
