Supporting Families and Caregivers in Child Development


Parents and primary caregivers are especially important people in children’s lives for they learn most from them. A child thrives best in the world when there is intentional collaboration between families, caregivers and the communities.

This two-day workshop focuses on developing strategies to partner with families to create optimal and nurturing environment to support children’s developing sense of self.


By the end of the workshop, participants will:

1. Understand the roles that attuned families and caregivers play in a child’s development

2. Develop core skills to communicate and engage families and caregivers: Attending skills & Active Listening

3. Know the resources and interventions to support families in promoting emotional bonding with their children.


  • Attunement, neuroscience and parenting
  • Impact of challenges on the developing child
  • Effective communication: Attending skills & Active Listening

Through small group discussions and experiential activities, participants will have opportunities to deepen their understanding and application of knowledge.


Beginning Early Intervention Educator, Early Intervention Educator, Learning Support Educator 

Pre-requisite: Completed Attuning to the Child’s World (14hrs)


Participants who meet 80% class attendance will be awarded a Certificate of Accomplishment by the Academy of Human Development.

Ms Lee Sock Kuan has been working with children, adolescents, and their families since 2007. Besides counselling and psychology, she is trained in Gestalt Play Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Play Therapy, Sandplay Therapy, Family Therapy and Emotional-Focused Therapy. She is currently undergoing training with Somatic Experiencing® International to incorporate body and somatic work into her clinical practice.

As a certified Gestalt Therapist with Children and Adolescents (West Coast Institute, USA) Sock Kuan specializes in children and their families on a myriad of developmental issues and traumas, mental health issues (such as depression and anxiety), attachment issues and challenging behaviours.

Besides clinical work, Sock Kuan also trains and supervises mental health practitioners such as counsellors, therapists, psychologists and social workers. As an approved West Coast Institute trainer and supervisor, Sock Kuan is involved in mentoring candidates in the WCI Certification Programme. In addition to West Coast Institute, she is also a registered Clinical Member and Clinical Supervisor of the Singapore Association for Counselling and Association for Play Therapy (Singapore) and a Certified Practitioner in Therapeutic Play Skills with Play Therapy International (UK).
