Solution-Focused Brief Therapy Practice

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is an evidence-based approach with more than 3 decades of research to counseling and therapy that focuses on solution-building instead of dwelling on client’s past or analyzing their issues. It is future-oriented, designed to help clients identify and achieve their desired outcome in a timely manner, making it time-efficient for therapists as well as for clients. It is a collaborative approach that involves the client and therapist working together to identify solutions, and a client-centered approach that recognises the unique needs, preferences and resources of each client, making it a flexible and adaptable approach.

SFBT has been found to be effective in a variety of settings, including mental health, addiction treatment, education and healthcare, and with a wide range of clients, including individuals, couples, families, and groups. Participants will learn concrete skills and techniques that they can apply immediately in their practice.

At the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Observe the professional ethics and values of a counsellor.
  • Apply the understanding of SFBT techniques and identify resistance in the counselling process.
  • Apply solution building tools and SFBT interviewing techniques in counselling.
  • Practice the SFBT approach to engage and support clients in solution-building.

Facilitated Classroom Training and e-Learning (Blended learning)

The course is targeted at counsellors, social workers, medical social workers, psychologists, school counsellors, nurses, institutional officers, career coaches, and teachers.

Individuals who are interested to further equip themselves with concepts and skills in counselling - such as volunteers, workers from any industry, and the general public – are also welcome to apply.

Trainees who meet 75% class attendance and achieve “Competent” for all assessments will be issued a Statement of Attainment (SOA) awarded by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).
